BLACK BELT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION - Mission
Our Mission
We Exist for the People of the Black Belt
The Black Belt Community Foundation was established in 2003 to pull together human and financial resources to improve life in the area by funding projects that brings about permanent improvement and change to the region.
The Black Belt Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to work with all of our citizens to help improve the quality of life in a region that stretches from Mississippi to Georgia . The 12-county area that is our focus is almost one-sixth of the land area of the state. It is home for nearly a quarter of a million people. Rich in human, geographic, cultural and economic diversity, Alabama 's Black Belt got its name from the rich, dark soil found here. The area also is home to the highest percentage of African American residents in Alabama .
The Foundation seeks to engage Black Belt residents and leaders to improve the environment, health and human services, education, youth, arts, culture, economic and community development and other areas the communities determine.
The mission of the foundation is to forge a collective stream of giving from the community and other sources so we, the people of the Black Belt, can enhance our continuing efforts to lift ourselves by “taking what we have to make what we need.”
The Black Belt Community Foundation is helping to fulfill its mission by providing grants, by building an endowment, by providing leadership, and by forming partnerships. In these and other ways, we are working to build a better Black Belt for all its residents.
